Polina is a single mother, the childrens father see's his daughters occasionally but does not help financially. The family is virtually confined to their apartment as Polina has no car or twin buggy. Nikolai, 2 yrs ten months at the nevski rehabilitation centre. Nikolai has Cerebral Palsy, he has been attending the centre for two months and his mother has described his development both mentally and physically as astonishing. He attends the centre once a week, more if his mother can bring him. St Petersburg, Russia.

Igor, 3 years old sits on his mother Zlata's Knee at the Viborgski district parents club. Zlata is a single parent and cant work because Igor suffers from extreme food allergies and this has meant no nursery is willing to take responsibility for him. Igor is bored and the parents club run by EveryChild is his only chance to meet other children. St Petersburg, Russia.

Elena cradles her daughter Dascha, 6 years, outside the Nevski rehabilitation centre for adults and children with disabilities. Dascha has Asthma, bronchitis and epilepsy. No school will accept Dascha as her care needs are too great to manage. The centre is her only contact with other children who also have learning and physical diabilities. The state allows a maximum of two visits per week as the centre is the first of its kind in the area and in great demand. Dascha's mother is retraining as a speech therapist in the hope one dayshe will be able to communicate with her daughter. Nevskii District, St Petersburg, Russia.

Svetlana and her two sons cook, eat and sleep in one tiny room. They share a bathroom with neighbours. Svetlana stores all the familys belongings on high shelves to prevent Andrey breaking them. Victor 9yrs and his brother Andrey, 5yrs. The boys live with their parents in an apartment so dilapidated and in need of repair their mother was too ashamed to have it photographed. The family survive on a meagre slary from the fathers factory work. The boys' father works such long hours the boys rarely see him. Everychild has enabled the boys to go on some excursions and day trips that the family otherwise could not afford. St Petersburg, Russia.

Nadezide and Yuriy live with 11 of their children and grandchildren in a cramped apartment in St Petersburg. The charity EveryChild has been supporting the family as they seek alternative accomodation. Russia.
